Intranet Design - Best of 2005

Date February 28, 2005

Jakob Nielsen’s 10 Best Intranets of 2005 was announced today, mentioning wikis and online video among some of the elements found on winning sites. Being more curious about wiki use than anything else, I gravitated to the paragraph on Orbis:

Orbis has probably the most unusual intranet approach, building its site entirely on a Wiki platform. In this collaborative authoring environment, any employee can edit any page at any time (except for a few modification-controlled pages). As a result, employees can easily and immediately update information whenever they come across outdated content. The result is that the Orbis intranet is much more richly informative and current than what is typical for small organizations with limited intranet resources. Even companies that don’t want to completely open up edit-access can benefit from making department- and project-level pages easier to edit.

The authority question always seems to come up but as he states, permissions can be set where needed and the benefits of editable content can be taken advantage of where possible.

You can catch the highlights on Jakob’s site, but to read the full report you’re going to have to shell out some coin.

Well, I did post a comment, however, it seems to have gone somewhere to the ether with Elvis…
If you would like to check out Wiki (or twiki) in action, I believe there are some read-only things you can access on the Disc - however, this is a gaming site, and twiki(wiki) is used to manage coders/admin projects and ideas vs work related.
Just stumbled in and skimmed and saw this and wanted to comment… have a great day :-)

But how obsurd is it to talk about best designs without providing screenshots?!!
