Connecting the Dots: Social Software and the Social Nature of Libraries

Date May 12, 2006

I’m in the process of cleaning up *everything* today — from half-finished projects to various tasks too long the victim of my procrastination. Yes, even my overflowing inbox of messages, all awaiting some kind of action by me, was addressed in some way (hitting the “delete” key became the fate of many). As part […]

A Brief (I hope) Hiatus

Date September 9, 2005

I’ve had to cut a few things out of my life lately in order to help me keep my sanity and allow for some sleep. Unfortunately, authoring this blog seems to have hit the list of things that aren’t critical. Or at least, the list of things that don’t pay the rent.

I hope to get back to blogging soon though, including finding the time once again to read through all those other enlightening blogs. I really do value the exchange of ideas that takes place within the blogger slice of the library community. And frankly, I do miss reading quite a few of those library bloggers I’ve grown to appreciate over the years. I think I feel trapped in a void now because it isn’t like its freed up more time to read “scholarly” materials and I’m now simply “out of the loop.” Like being left out of the coffee talk. Not a very fun or inspiring place to be but c’est la vie, c’est la vie. Life will slow down soon and I’m sure all will return to normal. This is my new mantra.

Googlistic Expectations

Date August 24, 2005

Lots of blog chatter today about Google Talk — yet another jump forward for the little search engine that could. The next phase of what can now only be referred to as Googlenet (rats, already coined).
Really, is there any Internet trend or technology that Google isn’t working towards becoming involved with or at the […]

MT 3.2 for Business

Date August 22, 2005

I just received a news alert about Six Apart’s MT 3.2 release, aimed towards the business community. It’s not surprising that powerful spam fighting and trackback/commenting tools weigh heavily in the feature list.
Today is when it is supposed to be released, although I’m still only seeing a link to 3.2 Beta on their site. […]

iBook G4 responsible for librarian’s descent into geekdom

Date August 16, 2005

…he writes from the newly installed Wordpress widget on his brand spankin’ new laptop.
Yup. I picked up my new iBook today along with my new 30 gig iPod and will very likely have to be surgically removed from it before you will catch me away from it. Expect few postings in the next day […]

Three years old

Date July 21, 2005

On the drive home from work last night it suddenly occured to me that I just turned three. Three in librarian years (is there some kind of dog years calculation that goes with that?I don’t know). Three years as a librarian at the UofA. Three years out of library school. Three years of non-stop learning […]

Grilling 101 for the Victoria Day Long Weekend

Date May 20, 2005

It is the Friday before a long weekend and having come across this very useful “lifehack” in del.icio.us, I feel obligated to share it with those of you who will be joining me in lighting a BBQ or two in the coming days.
A Work In Progress: Everything You Thought You Knew About Grilling Is […]

A good week

Date April 8, 2005

I’m the last to blog it, but yes, young Randy and I did just have a peer-reviewed article published. A pdf preprint version of the article,”Weblogs: Their Use and Application In Science and Technology Libraries” has been posted to STLQ.
:: Other *very good news* this week - I am now a University of Alberta librarian […]

Odds and Ends

Date January 25, 2005

Odds and ends of stories, tools and links for today’s posting pleasure — the result of surfing my wireless laptop while laying lifeless in bed after a rough night of food poisoning (i think) and an hour or two of restless sleep…
:: Google Video Beta - A very cool tool. The SearchEngineWatch blog is featuring […]

Tsunami Disaster Mapping Portal

Date January 10, 2005

A colleague let me know about the Tsunami Disaster Mapping Portal, which was written up in GeoCommunity Spatial News.
This interactive, Internet-based Website contains a rapidly increasing wealth of data about all Indian Basin Tsunami affected countries and regions - collected both before and after the ongoing disaster.
The goal of this Website is to help facilitate, […]
